Lucille "Lu" Smith

March 17, 1935 — July 22, 2015

Lucille “Lu” Smith, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Brewster Village. Lu was born on March 17, 1935, daughter of the late John and Josephine (Kramer) Meyers. She was a proud graduate of Lourdes High School and later in life she earned her associate degree from the Fox Valley Center alongside her son. In August of 1955, Lu married James Smith at St. Anthony Church in Marinette. They would share almost 60 years of marriage together.

Lu started her 40 year banking career at First National Bank, seeing it through many changes. She worked in human resources at Chase Bank for over 15 years, retiring in 1996. In her younger years, she enjoyed sewing and never missed her children's band concerts and sporting events. Lu loved reading, taking classes, camping and traveling. She excelled at growing roses of all kinds and was known for her organizational skills. As a charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, she and James helped start their bingo program which was the first one in the state. Lu prided herself in the work she did with the fish organization helping those in need with rides. Above all, Lu enjoys spending time with the people she loved, especially her family and grandchildren.

Lu will be missed by her loving husband: James; her two children: Laura (Chris Medora) Smith and Dan (Kimm) Smith; her grandchildren: Gina and Myra Medora, and Karissa, Deryk and Dawson Smith. She is further survived by her brother Richard Meyers and her Aunt Barb Johnston, as well as many other special friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents: John and Josephine Meyers, her infant son Steven, as well as James' parents: Martin and Kathrine Smith.

The funeral liturgy for Lu will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at ST. THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1810 North McDonald Street, Appleton, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. The family will receive guests at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.
