Lucille L. Eckes

Lucille Eckes, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, September 3, 2012. Lucille was born in Eau Claire on July 4, 1924, daughter of the late Leo and Anna (Haas) Steinke. She graduated from the Marshfield High School, and on March 16, 1942 married Vern Eckes. He preceded her in death in 2010, after sixty eight years of marriage. In her younger years, she enjoyed golf, camping, and traveling, and was a lifelong reader. For many years she worked as the office manager for McKesson and Robbins. Lucille was also a lifelong and faithful member of First English Lutheran Church.

She is survived by four daughters whom she loved very much: Barb (Jim) Hinzman of Appleton; Sandy Hackney of Pittsboro, North Carolina; Nancy (Tom) VanderHeiden of Wrightstown; and Sue (John) Woodliff of Waupaca; her grandchildren: Dawn Krueger, Brian Hinzman, Laura (Dave) Farrell, Mike (Cindy) VanderHeiden, Carri Rosera, Rob (Lindsay) VanderHeiden, Jenny (Scott) Borley, Tom VanderHeiden, Jeremy (Christie) Woodliff, Todd Dumke, Scott (Nancy) Dumke, Nick (Sherrie) Hackney, Landon (Jodie) Hackney; twenty-four great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister-in-law: Bev Steinke of Rochester, Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Vern, a grandson David Woodliff; a brother Layton Steinke; a sister Agnes (Joe) Suryan; a sister-in-law Eileen (Tony) Todero; and a brother-in-law: Duke Eckes.

A service for Lucille will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior Street in Appleton, with Chaplain Mike Williams officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon from 5:00 PM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.

The family would like to offer their thanks to Lucille's caregiver, Karen Seefeldt, of Senior Helpers for the wonderful love and compassion she showed to Lucille, to Fox Valley Assisted Living for their care and compassion, to AseraCare Hospice whose staff was so loving during this difficult time, to Dr. Jack Anderson, and to Pastor Jeff Tengesdal. We could not have asked for better care for our mother. A very special thank you to Chaplain Mike Williams, Nicole, and Mandy from AseraCare – we especially appreciate your sensitivity and caring at this time. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
