Lola Faye Gilroy

September 26, 1919 — February 6, 2010

Lola Faye Gilroy, age 90, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Her faith in God's love gave purpose to her life and was the fountain of her strength. She is now in heaven with her beloved daughter, Karen. Faye was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. She loved to cook and bake, and share with her friends. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Fay was born September 26, 1919, in Ada, Oklahoma, and was raised in Oklahoma City. In 1939, she met and married her first husband, Ken “Schermie” Schermitzler. They were wed for thirty-one years, and had three children together: Karen, Ken Jr., and Ron. Ken Sr. died in 1973. In 1970, she met and married Merle Gilroy. They enjoyed walking together, and meeting old friends and new acquaintances at the mall. Merle passed away in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents Ed and Artie Hughes, her dear daughter Karen Tittel, a sister Bertha Pritchard, three brothers Ray, Glen, and Bill Hughes in Oklahoma City, and a cousin Oral Roberts.

Faye is survived by two sons: Ken (Judy) Schermitzler of Green Bay and Ron (Frances) Schermitzler of Neenah; her grandchildren: Rob, Scott, and Brian Schermitzler; Todd and Joe Schermitzler; John and Rob Casperson; and Eric Tittel; and many great-grandchildren. She also has one surviving brother: Oriel Othel Hughes in Oklahoma City; a cousin: Vaden Roberts of Tulsa; a niece: Sandra Hughes of Oklahoma City; three nephews: Stanley Pritchard, and Donald Pritchard of Dallas, and James Pritchard of Blanchard, Oklahoma.

The Family would like to extend a special “Thank you” to Cindy Johnson, a wonderful person who often took Faye out on short excursions to the mall or on various shopping trips. Also greatly appreciated are the many caregivers at ManorCare in Appleton and the people at Heartland Hospice who made Faye's last few years more comfortable.

Services for Faye will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 3212 S. Oneida Street in Appleton, with Fr. Bob Karuhn of Sacred Heart Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the hour of the service.

With heavy hearts, we say goodbye, but look forward to seeing you again some day I heaven. We'll always love and miss you- rest in peace.
Love, your family.
