Lois J. Olson

Lois J. Olson, age 89, of Appleton, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2015. She was born on May 1, 1926 in Appleton to the late Henry and Ida (Reetz) Leopold. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1944.
She married the love of her life Frank A. Olson Jr. on May 21, 1949. Together they were blessed with nine children. Lois was employed at Gimbel's/Dayton's/Marshall Field's/Macy's retiring in 2004. Some of Lois's fondest memories where those spent with her family. She enjoyed cooking and during the Christmas holidays she would set aside a full day of baking with her girls. Lois enjoyed bowling with the Wednesday Morning League for over 40 years. She and Frank were also members of a couples bowling leagues together. She liked a good game of cribbage and sitting down with a crossword puzzle and a hot cup of coffee. Lois was also an active volunteer for St. Joe's Pantry for many years.
Lois is survived by her nine children, Fredrick (Sue) Olson, Richard Olson, Steve (Deb) Olson, Patricia (Ken) Kemps, David (Deb) Olson, Mary (Wayne) Hartzheim, Thomas (Lynn) Olson, Kristine Wells and Susan (Craig) Rogne; eighteen grandchildren, Erik (Sarah) Olson, Christopher (Kirsten) Olson, Ted Olson, Justin Olson, Elliot Olson, Breanna Olson, Bryan (Kim) Olson, Tim (Debecca) Olson, Andrew (Erica) Olson, Elizabeth Olson, Kayla (Jon) VandenEng, Trisha (Scott) Gavin, Sara (Steve) Guajardo, Jason (Becky) West, Ryan West, Benjamin Wells, Nicholas and Laura Rogne; twelve great-grandchildren, Sarah Olson, Michael Olson, Denise Olson, Olivia VandenEng, Isaac VandenEng, Elsa Gavin, Nathan Gavin, McKennah West, Hailey West, Brooke West, Carson West and Kaylie Olson. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Gertrude Leopold and many other nieces nephews and relatives.
In addition to her parents Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Frank; her sister, Madeline “Pat” and her brothers, Melvin, Harold, and Robert along with their spouses.
Funeral services for Lois will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2015 at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 312 South State Street, Appleton. A time of visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m. until the time of the prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 North Superior Street, Appleton, and again from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service at church on Friday. Interment will be held at St. Mary Cemetery in Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Lois's name. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers that have taken care of Lois and a very special thank you to our sister Kris, who has been our guiding light for the past few months.
