Lois Alma Coenen (Bungert)

December 2, 1931 — December 26, 2020

Lois A. Coenen, 89, went home to be with her Lord on December 26, 2020. Lois passed away after a lengthy illness with her family at her side. She was born on December 2, 1931, in New London. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Ellington and was a faithful member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Appleton. On August 2, 1952, she was married to Kenneth J. Coenen with whom she spent 68 joyful years! Lois and Ken were blessed with six children. Lois loved spending time with her family which included baking, cooking, gardening, nurturing her flowers, and watching the birds! She also enjoyed her time volunteering at the Bargain Garden in Appleton. Lois lived her life in faith and love and was always there with an encouraging word, especially for her family!

Lois is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Coenen; six children: Christine (Mark) Sherman, Mark (Terri) Coenen, Timothy (Jacci) Coenen, Susan (Steven) Krull, Mary (Gary) Hawley, and Matthew Coenen; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great grandchildren. Lois is also survived by her sister Phyllis Jentz; brother and sister-in-law Frederick (Bonnie) Bungert; brother-in-law Kermit Coenen; sisters-in-law Rosie Coenen and Linda (Gene) Koponen; and other relatives, and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Elsie Bungert; a sister Joan Coenen; father and mother-in-law Raymond and Lorinda Coenen; brothers-in-law Earl Jentz, Donald Coenen, and Duane Coenen; and a sister-in-law Joann Coenen.

A celebration service for Lois’ life will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, 129 S. Mason St., Appleton. For those who wish to attend, but don’t feel comfortable, the service will be livestreamed via her obituary page at www.wichmannfuneralhomes.com, at 11:00 am, on Wednesday. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated to St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton.

Lois’ family would like to thank the nurses at ThedaCare at Home and Hospice for their love, care, and support for Lois!

Lois was deeply loved and will be missed by her family! She will also be dearly missed by her friends at Old Glory Café in Kimberly!
