Lester J. Salm

December 8, 1923 — January 10, 2015

Lester J. Salm, 91 of Appleton passed away peacefully on January 10, 2015. He was born on December 8, 1923 in Chilton to George and Emma (Koehler) Salm and lived on the family farm until his twenties. Les grew up a devout Catholic and attended church regularly.
One of Lester's favorite places to visit when he was young was The Cinderella Ballroom in Appleton. It was here he met his future wife Violet “Vi” Keddell, by asking her to dance. Les and Vi were married on November 27, 1945 and moved to Appleton where they raised their four children. Throughout his life, Les had many different jobs and was employed with Appleton Papers in Combined Locks for over 30 years before he retired in 1986.

Les always told great stories from growing up on the farm and from his different experiences in life. He had a great sense of humor and was always cracking funny jokes. Also he enjoyed listening to polka music, dancing, playing Bingo and watching Packers games. For over 60 years Les was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Violet Salm, their daughter Jean, his sisters Mildred Rach, Genevieve Mueller, and Sister Bernice Salm.
Lester will be greatly missed by his family who dearly loved him. He is survived by his children: Bob (Kathy) Salm of Appleton, Don (Gayle) Salm of Fitchburg, Ken (Sue Ann) Salm of Appleton; grandchildren: Karen and Laura Salm; Adam, Ethan, and Britne Salm; Brian (Ann) Salm, Erin (Robb) Goad and Katie Salm; great grandchildren: Damon and Kelsi Salm and Delaney Goad; siblings: Sister Mary Patrick Salm of Wheaton, Illinois and Jeanette Lynch of Kansas City, Missouri.
