Leroy ''Bud'' Schell

February 23, 1929 — July 14, 2001

Age 72, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2001 surrounded by his family at his home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Bud was born in Appleton on February 23, 1929, the son of the late Charles and Alice (Nooyan) Schell. On August 23, 1947, Bud married the former Patricia Ranquette in Kaukauna; she survives.

Bud was employed for many years at Thilmany Pulp and Paper, mainly servicing the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, and was a member of the Quarter- Century Club at Thilmany. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and golf, and in his later years enjoyed spending time with his family. Bud especially looked forward to attending his grandchildren’s activities.

Bud is survived by his wife: Pat Schell of Kaukauna; ten children: Sheila (Bob) Pflanzer of Ashland, Bill (Linda) Schell of Kaukauna, Tom Schell of Kimberly, Barb Schell of Oshkosh, Steve (Julie) Schell of Idaho, Nancy (Dennis) Tomko of Athelstane, Dan (Jenny) Schell of Sherwood, Tim Schell of Kaukauna, Jill (Chris) Wachel of Kaukauna, and Mary (Jody) Frederickson of Kaukauna; twenty grandchildren: Jaime Pflanzer, Amy (Bruce) Frommader, Chris Pflanzer, John (Linda) Schell, Brian (Erin) Schell, Beverly (Ben) Montenez, Shane Schmidt, Brad Dain, Brooke Dain, Lydia Van Schyndel, Jason Schell, Marcus, Pauline, and Hailey Schell, Chad and Emily Wachel, and Josh, Jesse, and Kylie Frederickson; eighteen great-grandchildren; a brother: James “Punk” Schell of Kaukauna; two half-brothers: Chuck (Kathy) Schell of Utah and Mike Schell of Ellison Bay; two half-sisters: Joan (John) Hart of Appleton and Carol (Don) Mraz of Algoma; a brother-in-law: Marv (Julie) Hooyman of Arizona, two special nieces: Julie (Duane) Paalman of Kaukauna and Sue (Dan) Coffey of Kaukauna, and by many special friends. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Ian Pflanzer, sisters Patricia Hooyman and Mary (William “Bud'') Brux, a sister-in-law Marge Schell, a brother-in-law Willie Ranquette, and by Patricia’s parents William and Lydia Ranquette.

The funeral liturgy for Bud will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna, with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 – 8 PM and again at the church on Wednesday from 10 AM until the hour of the liturgy.
