Leonard P. DeBriyn

June 19, 1921 — May 21, 2006

A loving father and grandfather, Leonard DeBriyn was called home to Jesus on Sunday, May 21, 2006 at a Marinette nursing home. Leonard was born in Ashland County on June 19, 1921, son of the late Louis and Hilda (Windl) DeBriyn. In June of 1944, he married the former Eileen Trinko; she preceded him in death in August of 1997. Leonard was employed for nearly thirty years as both a conductor and a brakeman for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He began in Ashland, and after several transfers, the family eventually relocated to Combined Locks where he retired in 1975. Leonard enjoyed all things “railroad”, as well as camping and woodworking. Many will remember the various things he invented and built from wood.

Survivors include a son: Bill (Alyce) DeBriyn of Marinette; a daughter: Jean (Gib) Micke of Combined Locks; eight grandchildren: Eric DeBriyn, Shanna (Mike) Jason, Scott (Jackie) DeBriyn, Steve (Tracy) DeBriyn, Maria Christina DeBriyn and her fiancé Chad LeFebvre, Sarah (Adam) Janssen, Anthony (Amber) DeBriyn, and Brad DeBriyn; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother: James (Geri) DeBriyn of Ashland; a sister: Laverne McDougal of Florida; and a sister-in-law: Lucy DeBriyn of Scottsdale, Arizona. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eileen, a son John in 1986, a brother Louis DeBriyn, Jr., and a brother-in-law Howard McDougal.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 26, 2006 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street in Combined Locks with Fr. Jim Lucas officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends and family will gather at the church on Friday morning after 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
