Leon D. Theimer

December 20, 1945 — January 12, 2016

Leon Theimer went home to be with His Savior Jesus Christ on January 12, 2016 at age 70, after a 14 month battle with cancer.

Leon was born in Appleton on December 20, 1945 to Milton and Gertrude (Maertz) Theimer. He graduated from Fox Valley Lutheran High School in 1964 and worked as an electrical engineer in the paper industry until retiring in 2011. His work took him to many places both in and outside of our country. Retirement brought him time to complete many special woodworking projects.

Leon will be remembered as a kind, patient, caring man and a wonderful husband and father. He loved being “Papa” to his two grandchildren. In addition to his work, his life was spent serving his family and church. Leon is survived by his wife Cheryl with whom he shared 39 years of marriage; a son: Andrew (Anna Marie) Theimer of Boulder, Colorado; two daughters: Anna Rose (Benjamin) Festge of Appleton and Amy (Jeremiah) Tripke of Fond du Lac; two grandchildren: Levi and Mabel Tripke. He is further survived by his brother: Gary (Connie) Theimer; a sister: Carol (Maurice) Hoppe; and nieces and nephews. Also left behind are close family cousins and longtime friends.

The Christian Funeral Service for Leon will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Riverview Lutheran Church, 136 W. Seymour Street in Appleton, with Rev. Dennis Belter and Rev. Adam Bode officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Wichmann Tri- County Chapel, 1592 Oneida Street in Menasha, and again at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Weyauwega.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Goggins and the entire staff at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, Affinity Home Care and Heartland Hospice. Deep appreciation goes to Jim and Kathy Weyers, Chuck and Debbie Steinbach and Nancy Kroiss for their help and support during this time. Further thanks to our other long time neighbors, our supportive church family and Pastors Dennis Belter, Pastor Adam Bode and Peter Wolfgramm.

Memorials are established for WELS Builders for Christ and the Vulnerable Children's Foundation which works to place orphaned children of Zambia, Africa into Christian educational settings.
Although we grieve the earthly passing of a husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, we celebrate his arrival in Heaven. Leon remained certain, not in himself, but in the perfect life, innocent death and victorious resurrection of Jesus. To God be the Glory!
