THURK, LaVERNE

LaVerne J. Thurk, age 85, of Appleton, passed away at ManorCare Nursing Home, Appleton, on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. LaVerne was born on April 23, 1926, in Niagara, Wisconsin to the late William and Mamie (Laurent) Senecal. She married Kenneth Thurk on July 8, 1950, in Kaukauna; he preceded her in death on March 11, 1979. LaVerne enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading and playing cards. Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Gary) Schindler, St. Petersburg, Florida; her two granddaughters, Lynette (Jay) Gray and Laura (Drew) Brokl; her five great grandchildren; her sisters, Leone Skowen, Appleton; Patricia (Carl) Sengstock, Appleton; and Barbara Powers, Markesan. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. LaVerne was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Thurk; her sister, Marceil Frahm; her brother William Senecal; and her grandson, Scott Schindler. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME—TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, Menasha, with Rev. Timothy Seabaugh officiating. Friends may call directly at the Wichmann Funeral Home Tri-County Chapel in Menasha from Noon until the time of services. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Clintonville. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Robert Fox and the staff at ManorCare Nursing Home for their loving care. A memorial has been established in her name to benefit Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Appleton.
