LaVerna K. L. Desten, age 96, of Appleton, died Saturday evening, February 5, 2005, following a short illness. She was born January 9, 1909, to the late Oscar and Mary (Schultz) Popp, in Potter, Wisconsin and had been an Appleton resident all of her life. LaVerna married Roy J. Desten on June 27, 1928. She enjoyed crafting, reading, fishing, decorating and spending time at her cottage, at Pickerel, Wisconsin. She is survived by four children, Evonne Paulowski, Pickerel; Ronald ((Sharon) Desten, Pickerel; Elaine (Francis) Rogers, Pickerel; Shari (Dennis) Kaphingst, Appleton; nine grandchildren, Chris (Cheryl) Paulowski, Rebbeca Paulowski, Gregg Desten, Melissa Desten, Dan Rogers and his fiancée, Linda Zimmerman, Rick Rogers and his fiancée, Debra Hanson, Ryan Kaphingst, Josh Kaphingst and his fiancée, Melissa Kanaman, Dana Kaphingst; eight great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and a sister, Arleen Semrow, Appleton. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy J. Desten September 19, 1987, and two brothers, Jerome Popp and Arthur Popp. Funeral services for LaVerna will be held at 12:00 pm, (Noon), Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 209 South Allen Street. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
