Kurt Erich Deffert, 95, of Appleton, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Cherry Meadows. Kurt was born on February 21, 1915 to Paul and Marie Deffert in Berlin Germany. Kurt moved to Appleton in 1924 and served as a medic in the US Army from 1942 until 1945. He worked for 42 years at Riverside Papers retiring in 1980. Kurt married Irmgard Scislowski on November 23, 1957 at Zion Lutheran in Appleton and they had many wonderful years and trips together. He was a member of the Appleton Maennerchor (a German American Choir), Zion Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Johnston Blessman American Legion post #38 and the Harvey Pierre VFW post #2778. Kurt had many hobbies and enjoyed stamp collecting, taking care of his yard and most of all he was a Packer fan, he and Irmgard had season tickets from the opening game at Lambeau Field until about 10 years ago. Kurt is survived by his wife, Irmgard Deffert, and many friends and neighbors. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH (912 N. Oneida St.) with Pastor Kurt Kovanen officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday from 12:00 PM until the time of the services at the Church. Entombment will be in the Highland Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Kurt's name.
