Smith, Kenneth J.

Kenneth James Smith, age 80, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Saturday, May 9, 2009. Kenn was born in Appleton on February 14, 1929, the son of the late Faymeir and Dorothy (Keys) Smith. On March 24, 1952, Kenn married his loving wife, Beverly Pierce, in Milwaukee. After graduating from Appleton High School, Kenn served his country honorably in the Army, 82nd Airborne. He attended the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee and graduated, earning a Bachelor's Degree. Kenn spent several years as a speech therapist in the Shawano area before settling in Kaukauna. He was an instructor for the Kaukauna Area School District for over 30 years. Kenn loved to go fishing and camping and devoted much time to painting and carving.

Kenn will be sadly missed by his wife, Beverly Smith, of Kaukauna; children: Steve Smith of Washington, D.C., Maxine Smith of Kaukauna; sister-in-law, Barbara (Jack) Wooten; brother-in-law, Richard Pierce, nephews: Jerry (Jean) Smith and Ron (Donna) Smith and cousins, Joyce (Charlie) Gibour. Ken is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service for Kenn will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 510 Sullivan Avenue, Kaukauna, with the Rev. Melinda Feller officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Kenn's family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all the angels at Thedacare at Home Hospice for all their love and support for Kenn.

In lieu of flowers, Kenn's family has established a memorial fund.
