Kenneth E. Thomack

June 19, 1932 — February 2, 2012

Ken Thomack, age 79 passed away at Cherry Meadows Hospice early on Thursday, February 2, 2012, following a very brief illness. Ken was born in Appleton on June 19, 1932, son of the late Adna and Laura (McFarland) Thomack. Ken attended Appleton West High School, where he excelled at wrestling, basketball, and especially football. He was the president of his senior class in 1951, and still enjoyed his many friends and acquaintances in “Club 51.” In September of 1979, Ken married the love of his life, Barbara Rusch; Barb preceded him in death in 2008. In his younger years, Ken worked in the paper mill, but most will recall his many years as a financial planner and partner at Planning Concepts, Inc. Another love of Ken's was the B.P.O.E. He was a member for years of Kaukauna Lodge #962, and in 2003 served as the president of the Wisconsin Elks Association. Here, too, he treasured his many friends and associates. Ken was also the President Elect and Honorary President of Appleton's Golden K Club. He loved the outdoors, sports of all kinds, the Green Bay Packers, and time spent at the family cottage on Musky Lake.

Ken is survived by three children: Michael A. Thomack of Appleton; Tammy L. (Jeff) Swedberg of Cecil; and Misty (Jason) Zuhlke of Neenah; two grandchildren: Colton and Bryson; his special friend: Mary Rydell of Menasha; a brother: Bill (Joan) Thomack of Appleton; and a sister: Marilyn McGowan of Wisconsin Rapids. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, Elk brothers, friends, and associates. Ken was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara, and a sister: Shirley (Stanley) Fall.

The Christian Funeral for Ken will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at CHRIST THE KING LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 S. Washington Street in Combined Locks, with Rev. Tim Krick officiating. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and again Tuesday morning at the church from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. There will be a B.P.O.E. gathering at the funeral home Monday evening at 7:00 PM.

How much we all have loved him and what beautiful memories we shall keep in our hearts forever. May God continue to bless you, Ken, our precious friend. Our hearts are breaking, but we shall meet again. What a privilege it was to have shared time with this gentle, kind and loving man. Love Forever, Mary.

The family would like to thank Jeanette Coonen for her support, friendship, and love during this difficult time. We will never forget your kindness.
