Age 60, passed away after a courageous battle with heart surgery on Friday, November 14, 2003 in Cape Girardeau, MO. She was born on March 18, 1943 in Astoria, Oregon, daughter of Richard and Muriel (Neumann) Clements. She graduated in 1961 from Joliet, IL. Karen worked as a nurses aid at St. E’s for many years and at various nursing homes until early retirement. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, traveling, shopping, animals and most of all laughter and life. Karen found her roots when she was born again into the Catholic faith.

Karen is survived by her children: Scott D. Miller of Frisco, CO, Michelle (Jerry) Smits, children, Olivia, Jarrett and Mariah, Appleton; Nicole Baldwin, children Ariel, Danielle and Bryce, St. Robert, MO; Samantha (and special friend Paul)Young, children Merissa and Cassandra, Appleton; mother, Muriel, Joliet, IL; brothers: John (Nancy) Torma, children Troy and Renee, Kimberly, Steven, Van and sister Christine, Joliet, IL; and special aunt who helped raise her, Louise W. Frye of Appleton. She is further survived by many relatives, friends.

Mom had a special place in heart for Candy, her beloved dog. A faithful friend who was always there for her and with her through her many travels.

Karen is preceded in death by her father Richard, and an uncle, Frank Frye.

A memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2003, at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, 537 North Superior Street, Appleton. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

The family would like to express a special thank you to all of the friends who showed their support.

A memorial in Karen’s name is being established and may be sent to Michelle Smits, 2100 W. Marquette Street, Appleton, WI 54914.
