Julie M. Moderson

April 3, 1956 — February 19, 2015

Today we said goodbye to an amazing grandmother, mother, wife and my best friend. A woman filled with so much love, and whose greatest joy was the time spent with her grandchildren and watching her children grow up to be the wonderful people they have become. Nothing was more special to her than her family and to leave them at such an early age hurt her more than the physical pain she lived with. Julie fought this disease with unbelievable strength and faith, to be with her family one more year, one more month, one more day. Her endless love and compassion for her husband should be the kind of love every man should experience in his life. But all battles, no matter how hard we fight, are not always won or even achievable and Julie's battle with pancreatic cancer ended on February 19, 2015.

Julie was born April 3, 1956 to the late Dr. J.S. and Shirley (Iggulden) Jeffrey in Kaukauna, WI. Julie was a 1974 graduate of Kaukauna High School and attended Fox Valley Tech. Julie met the man of her dreams in May 1976 and married Paul Moderson at St. Aloysius Church on June 11, 1977 in Kaukauna, WI. Julie was a stay home mom until all her children were in school. Julie treasured the memories of all those childhood trips to the park, pools, and especially the library where she shared her love of books and reading with her children.

Once all the children were in school, she started working for Aramark in the Appleton Area School District, working at various schools until she became the lead at Horizon school. She always cherished the memories of all the students she got to know and all the wonderful staff at Horizon school. Julie's next job took her to Associated Appraisal in Appleton as an administrative assistant. It was at this job where she met Sandy Reindfleisch and they knew instantly that they would become best friends. She always loved the time they spent together. Julie continued to work at Associated Appraisal until her health deteriorated and she could no longer return to work. Julie was an expert seamstress and worked part time at the Buckle in the Fox River Mall for 15 years doing alterations. She often volunteers her talent making things from banners for church, and a youth marching band from Germany to tuba covers or a softball jersey for an exchange student at Appleton East. Julie's passion in life was reading and spent her free time reviewing books.

Giving back to the community was a big part of Julie's life. She was past President of the Richmond Schools PTO and ran the school's carnival there for many years. Julie could always be found at one of her children's schools helping out wherever help was needed. She was a proud member of the Democratic Party and worked tirelessly on many campaigns. Being involved in children's lives was a passion for Julie, whether it was helping her husband coach boys and girls rec ball teams, helping with Brownies, or co-coaching with Gail Hager, in an early morning high school rec ball basketball team where they would show up in bathrobes, a clipboard and a roll of tape to keep the boys' mouths in check. The one thing her children could never figure out was “How did you know that?” She always knew what was going on in their lives.

Julie is survived by her husband of 37 years Paul, sons Mark (Hannah) of Oshkosh, Greg (Naomi) of Lindenhurst, IL, Kurt of Springfield, MO and Daughter Jill (Jeremy) Toombs of Tacoma WA and grandchildren Lily, Tyler, Nathaniel and Thaddeus, mother in law, Dorothy Moderson, sisters Pat (Jim) Hebert of Waldorf, MD and Kathy Pettys of Great Mills, MD, and brothers Christopher of Waldorf, MD and Mark (Debbie) Jeffrey of Larwill, IN, brothers in law David (Kathy) Moderson and Mike Moderson of Appleton, sisters in law Conni Moderson of Neenah and Patty Schmidt of Appleton. Uncle Charles and Janet Iggulden and Mike and Marsha Iggulden of Racine and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Dr J.S. and Shirley (Iggulden) Jeffrey, brother James Jeffrey, sister Amy Jeffrey Huber, father in law Merlin (Butch) Moderson, aunts Rosemary Igguldena and Sr. Patricia Iggulden, and cousins Sharon Iggulden and Nicole Gilbert.

The funeral Liturgy for Julie will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2015 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street, Kaukauna, with Father Tom Pomeroy officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 22, 2015 at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 1592 Oneida Street, Appleton, and again on Monday at CHURCH from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Julie's name. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wichmannfargo.com.

The family would like to thank Dr. Swanson and his staff at Fox Valley Hematology and Oncology, the nurses, particularly Dawn, and support staff at Theda Care at home Hospice for all their kindness, support and loving care for Julie. A special thank you to Sandy Reindfleisch and Terry Jackan for being such amazing friends and to all the family, neighbors and friends for all the prayers, cards, hugs, and support through this difficult time.

To let you go breaks my heart, but to know your pain is gone will help it heal. I saw your pain when many didn't, cried your tears when you couldn't. Your strength, courage and faith showed me how weak I am, but gives me a path that, someday, will bring us back together. You were the most amazing wife, mother and grandmother and I will never stop loving you and will hold you in my heart forever. Trust your journey.
Love Paul
