MARKS, JOYCE ANN

Joyce Marks, 84, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Brewster Village with family at her side. She was born on November 8, 1926 in Madison, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Heitmann) Sommerfeldt. Joyce was raised on the Sommerfeldt farm in Green Lake, where she established her love of animals and enjoyed the time with her pet pony. She graduated from Green Lake High School in 1944. In July of 1948, Joyce married James Marks at Trinity Episcopal Church in Oshkosh. Joyce was a receptionist at Dr. Gmeiner's office and worked in the emergency and surgical wards at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church and volunteered at the Emergency Shelter.

Joyce is survived by her husband: James Marks, Appleton; four children: Jody (Michael) Shannon, Duluth, Minnesota; Jeff (Cori Conrad) Marks, Oshkosh; Cindy (Michael Martens) Marks, Portland, Oregon and Tim (Laurie Strebe) Marks, Oshkosh; three grandchildren: Brittany and Devin Marks; Hailey Marks. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Sommerfeldt, Jr. and her beloved Molly.

The memorial service for Joyce will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at ALL SAINTS EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 100 N. Drew Street, Appleton. Rev. Patrick Twomey will be officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to All Saints Episcopal Church, Fox Valley Humane Society or Emergency Shelter of the Fox Valley, Inc. would be appreciated.

The family would like to thank all the staff and residents of Brewster Village who provided marvelous care and loving compassion for Joyce.
