John was a wonderful friend since our days in graduate school at ASU. He was so appreciative of the small acts of kindness offered to him throughout his illness. He admired his nephew for getting the groceries, not making a big deal out of it, but being supportive of him. He appreciated his many friends taking time to visit either in person or by phone. His was a gentle soul, and I will miss him.

My condolences to the Erchul family. John and I became quick friends when we met at ASU in 1989. We shared our love of music; he introduced me to the music of classic jazz musicians such as Miles Davis. I remember attending a Chick Corea concert in Scottsdale with him. Listening to some of his vast CD collection....along with his quirky jokes.....what great memories. I will miss him....peace be with you, my friend.
