I met Joanne a little over two years ago when she helped me, a new OCD employee, install equipment in Rock Springs, WY, of all places. She was enthusiastic on the three-hour drive from Salt Lake City to Rock Springs - talking about the scenery and how happy she was to be out West. We worked hard, but took a weekend day to drive down to Flaming Gorge on the Colorado river and had a refreshing lunch & a wonderful hike before returning to Rock Springs & work. She talked a lot about her famiy & nieces and nephews and was looking forward to spending Memorial Day weekend with them. She was a good example of having faith in Christ and I know she is resting peacefully with Him now.

Joanne was my instructor for the ECi. I remember her kindness and her skill for helping the clueless. What a great demonstration she gave to us newbeies! I'm thinking of her today as I give my training on that same instrument. Even with my limited personal interaction with her, she made a lasting impression. She was the goal of what a great LS is about. My only regret is that I didn't have more opportunities to know her the way others LSs did. My prayers are with you, her family, as they were with her during these past months. Jane Kopley LS NC

I have worked with Joanne for the past nine years. We will miss her a great deal. She was a leader in our group, a leader that all would gladly follow. Every time I came to her with my questions, she did all she could to help and was always so positive. Her knowledge and attitude have been an example to us all. To all her family and friends who are grieving, you are being held in prayer by so many of us who were blessed with the opportunity to work with Joanne.

Joanne is the most kind hearted, optimistic and life loving person I have known. I first met Joanne in 1995 when I joined Johnson & Johnson as a Laboratory Specialist in the same Wisconsin based district. Most of my training for "cross overs" was taught by Joanne in some of the Hospitals in her territory. She showed an incredible level of patience and stamina over long weeks. After moving to NJ in 1998 I had several opportunities to meet with Joanne when returning to Wisconsin to visit family. I will remember Joanne for her love of family, kindness and optimism. Jackie Helton left a message on April 6, 2009:
Mr. and Mrs. Novotny: Joanne and I were "breast buddies" as well as work buddies. We supported each other during our treatments; we laughed, we cried, and we laughed some more. She was always so technical about her treatments, and sometimes I had to remind her to be the patient. She was such a great friend, and I will miss her so much. She's in my thoughts and prayers now and always. God bless you and your family. We are all better for having known her.
Holly Bowers left a message on April 6, 2009:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Novotny, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Joanne on a couple of projects. Her professionalism, positive attitude and humor always made it enjoyable. Knowing that she was dealing with the fight of her life made me admire her even more. Joanne was truly a special person and those of us who had the chance to know her, albeit all to briefly, are better for it. You both must also be very special to have raised such a fine person. I hope you can take some small comfort in knowing that the respect and fondness we have for Joanne will live on. I am so sorry for your loss – our loss.

Mr. and Mrs. Novotny- I was one of the people at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics who had the extreme pleasure of working with JoAnne. She was a close friend to all at Ortho and also to her customers. She will be missed by all of us. There isn't a day that will go by that I don't think about JoAnne and all of the joy she brought to all of us.

There are no perfect words at this time. We want you to know that Joanne touched our lives . . . . with her smiles, her humor, and her positive attitude. As customers of OCD (and Kodak prior to that), Joanne made a lasting impression on us. She was always professional, but with a skill and kindness we will always remember. To the Novotny Family; Pat & I were very sad to learn of Joanne's struggle with cancer and her death. I worked @ Kodak and JNJ-OCD with both Joanne and Alison for several years. Joanne's quick wit and dry sense of humor was always welcome during stressful times! As a Wisconsin native, I always enjoyed working with Joanne. Very professional, knowlegable, customer focused and cool under pressure were traits she naturally possessed. She is now in a better place, free of pain and suffering! I hope that time heals your sorrow, but let's never forget, Joanne! You are all in our thoughts & prayers.
Fran Smith left a message on April 6, 2009:
To the Novotny family and all of Joanne's friends- I was shocked and tearful when I heard the news this week. I have not been in touch with Joanne in the past view years as my career choice led me away from our Kodak/J&J friends and colleagues, but I will always remember how well we got along as two new hires fresh from the labs beginning our careers with some unknown division of KODAK. We were roommates for over 10 weeeks of training, and got along famously. Always did. We compared "auntie" stories as our nieces and nephews grew up around us. When asked if we had children, we were know to both reply "No, but I make a good aunt". Please know that she will be missed, and remembered. My hearfelt wishes for peace go out to you. Regards, Fran Smith

Dear Joanne, I remember that LS meeting when we were with Kodak. It was June of 1993 and I was in early pregnancy. All were partying and you noticed I was not around. You came to look for me in my hotel room, which was next door to yours. I was lying in my bed paralyzed with fear as I thought I was having a miscarriage. You came in like an angel, asking me if I was alright. You took me to the ER that night in a strange city, and we heard Micheal's heart beat together. Then you got me safely back to our hotel, and made sure I was OK throughout the meeting. My husband and I were so grateful to you, and so is my son Michael who is now 13. You asked about him when I was so fortunate to see you last year at the AACC. I will always love and remember you every time I look at my son, You are truly now an angel. Love always, Cindy and Mike Kseniak, Michael (13) and Luke (11)

Joanne was a valuable asset to the entire LS team at OCD. Although I am a new member to the group and did not get to know her very well, I have heard very good things about her. Her strength and resolve are admirable and she will truly be missed.

Joanne was a dear friend and co-worker of mine. Joanne and I worked together as ATS's and had many projects together regarding training and assisting the LS's in the field. Joanne was always happy and optimistic everytime we talked and saw each other. She loved what she did, and helped each and everyone of the LS's in so many ways. She will be greatly missed, but will live on in our hearts forever. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time. She truely made a difference in my life that will last for the rest of my life. We both turned 50 this year within the same month, and I know how much she was looking forward to her 50th celebration. I am thankful she had the chance to celebrate her 50 years....she made the most of every moment.

Mr. & Mrs. Novotny and Family, Before joining Kodak in 1992 as a new LS, I hadn't travelled much outside Michigan. Part of our training was a field trip and mine was to join in the famous Users Group meeting that Joanne & Alison put together. I was so impressed with their friendliness and knowledge! And the hotel room they put in had a phone near the jaccuzi tub--WOW! I do admit I was a little nervous when Joanne was driving me back to the airport (Madison, I think) because I thought we were cutting it close but Joanne knew what she was doing and I had plenty of time to spare. I always looked forward to seeing Joanne at the company meetings! Joanne, I will miss your humor, your smile, your thoughtfulness and friendship but I'm so glad to have known you and will cherish the memories I have.

Dear Mr. & Mrs, Novotny and family, My husband Kevin and I have known Joanne for many years... going back 20 years during our Kodak days at OCD. We are honored to have been friends and cowokers of Joanne's. I was an LS for OCD as well. My husband and I currently work at OCD in Roch. We both had visited your area for the infamous Wis Vitros users group that Joanne hosted. Happy, delightful, funny, friendly, smiling... are just a few adjectives that describe Joanne. She will be missed.. Sincerely, Cindy and Kevin Doell

I joined J&J as an LS in 1996, and had the great fortune to work remotely with Joanne as she helped me through logistics of setting up my own User's Group in the Salt Lake area. There are two things that I will always remember best about Joanne. The first was her amazing kindness and willingness to help anyone with anything, and always with a smile on her face. The second is that great smile and optimism. Joanne touched so many people in her 50 years. I know I will remember her always. God bless you all.

I trust that she is in a better place now, non-the-less, we are all deeply saddened by her passing.

Joanne and I are both graduates of Marquette University's Med Tech program. She was a couple years ahead of me and was working at St. Michael's Hospital when I did my clinical rotation. Little did I know that our paths would cross once again when I began working for Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics. What a wonderful person she was. She approached life and work with great enthusiasm and truly cared for others. Her smile was contagious; you couldn't help but like Joanne. One of Joanne's most selfless acts was attending the award banquet at MU in April, where I was an award recipient. I'm certain this was a challenge for her, but clearly she was not thinking of herself. I am so grateful to have known Joanne because she is an example of how to live a truly Christian life. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.
