Jo W. Allen

November 17, 1957 — May 5, 2020

Jo White Allen, 62, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on the May 5th, 2020, in Appleton, Wisconsin, her home for the past 12 years. Jo had been fighting kidney disease for the better part of 5 years, and everyone who knew her would tell you she was a warrior.

Jo was born in Jackson, Mississippi to Fred and Julia Steele, on November 17th, 1957.  She went to school at John W. Provine High School, in Jackson.  She married Gary Dean Allen on February 21st, 1998, in Ethelsville, Alabama. She graduated from Hinds Community College, in Raymond, Mississippi.  She worked as a Medical Transcriptionist for many years. She was the founder of a Facebook group that brought together many childhood friends and restored many connections.

Jo is survived by her husband: Gary Allen; her two sons: Thomas and Marshall; her daughter: Abigail; her two brothers: Jack and John; and her sister: Jill.

Jo is preceded in death by Fred Steele, Julia Steele, Martin White Jr., and Beverly Scarf.

Jo was a Parrothead at heart. Her favorite artist was Jimmy Buffett, and those who loved her know she’ll be living out the rest of eternity on warm, sunny beaches, forever at peace.

In lieu of flowers, Jo’s family asks that those who can afford to do so, donate to the National Kidney Foundation: https://team.kidney.org/campaign/Jo-White-Allen-Memorial-Fund

The family of Jo wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at ManorCare (for helping Mom on her journey to a healthy life), and to the Emergency Room staff at Saint Elizabeth’s, (for doing the best you could to help Mom live to see another sunrise). A very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Appleton. Mom made great friends there, and always felt safe and comfortable.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, services will be held on a later date. Jo’s remains will be taken back home to Mississippi, and her life will be celebrated by those closest to her.
