Jean Baumann

May 13, 1922 — March 24, 2015

Jean Baumann, Age 92, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend was called to Christ on the 24th of March 2015 surrounded by her family peacefully at Appleton Medical Center. She was born May 13, 1922 to the late Francis and Jane (McCormick) Beattie in Ayr, Scotland. Jean married Nicholas Baumann in Scotland on July 20, 1944. She and Nick moved to Appleton, Wisconsin in January of 1947 where she resided the remainder of her life. She worked as a bookkeeper at National T Foods, Valley National Bank and retired from Red Owl. Some of her joys in life were traveling to Scotland and wintering in California after retirement. Her claim to fame while visiting in California was being a contestant and an undefeated champion on the game show “Card Sharks”. Jean was a founding member of the local international club and a member of the British Ladies that still meets to this day. In her later years Bingo with her sister Ina and friends was the highlight of her week. She was a charter member of the St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. She was known and loved by everyone she met as “Grandma Jean” and famous for her home made Scottish Shortbread.

She is survived by 3 daughters: Betty (Lee) West, San Diego California: Terri (Ron) Pike, Pembine: Franki (Rick) Romenesko, Appleton: 7 grandchildren, Bunty (Chris) Cross, San Diego, CA: John and Leah West, Temecula, CA: Karen (Dan) Marquardt, Neenah: Kim (Bart) Seidler, Richard (Beth) Romenesko Jr., Michael (Callie) Romenesko, and Nicholas (Rachel) Romenesko, Appleton: 13 great grandchildren. Sheena and Kirstie Cross, J.T. and Gavin West, Morgan and Mason Marquardt, Jakob and Mari Seidler, David and Wally Romenesko, Max and Frankie Romenesko, and Fiona Romenesko. She is further survived by her sister Ina De Cleen: 3 sisters-in-law, Clara Baumann, Marie Bushman, and Eileen Baumann, Appleton and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Nicholas, her mother and step father Jane and Gavin Morrison: sister and brother-in-law Nancy (Bert) Byatt: brother and sister-in-law Maxwell (Elaine) Beattie: Brothers-in-law Vince De Cleen, Clement (Marion) Baumann, Carl Baumann, Raymond (Virginia) Baumann, Henry (Clara) Baumann, Eugene Bushman, Joseph (Jeanette) Baumann, Eugene Weyers: sisters -in-law: Elizabeth (Russell) Burns, Gertrude (Emmett) Decker, Blanch (Richard) Strelka.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be at the church Friday morning before the funeral from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
