Our Janice, faithful wife, loving sister and loyal friend, ended her battle with cancer to join our Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 6, 2009. Born and raised a Christian, her earthly life's journey began on July 5, 1941, the first child of the late Harold L. and Frances S. Woehler. A graduate of Appleton High School, Jan was a member of their band, playing the clarinet while marching in local parades. She was employed by a local insurance company in the Records Department for many years—long enough so she could buy her “little house on the lake,” where she spent her favorite past time, fishing. Jan shared her fishing knowledge with others and welcomed everyone to stop by and try their luck. She also enjoyed playing softball, polka dancing, bowling, local casinos and her younger brothers and sisters. Other interests included stamp collecting, arts & crafts, puzzle-making, yard work and music. She played the saxophone, ukulele and the humstrum, in addition to the clarinet. About thirty-three years ago she met Jerry Dethardt, who won her heart, and the two were married on July 22, 1977. Janice will be greatly missed by her husband Jerry, 3 brothers and 3 sisters: Allan Woehler, Marilyn (Dennis) Zimmer, Charlotte (Tim) Hall, David Woehler, Ron (Terri) Woehler, Nancy (Bob) Pitt, and her “forever friend,” Barb Smith. She is further survived by her godmother, Aunt Ione; her 3 step-children, Karen Huben, Kenny and Gerald (Martha) Dethardt; her step-great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009, at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, Appleton. Pastor Jason Andersen of the Freedom Moravian Church will officiate this celebration of her life. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. A memorial has been established in her name.
