Age 80 years young, passed away at his home with his wife and family at his side on Monday, July 12, 2004. He was born in Menomonie, WI, on June 6, 1924, son of the late Hjalmer and Elsie (Thorson) Berg. On April 12, 1947 he married Shirley Lippolt in Eau Claire. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage together. Jim served in the United States Army in the European and Pacific campaigns during World War II. He retired as the fire chief of Menomonie, WI after 25 years of firefighting. As a member of First English Lutheran Church, he loved his God and family most of all and also enjoyed golf, music, Monday Night Football with his son-in-law and grandson, besting a car salesman, and especially a good joke.

Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters: Trudy (Tim) Lindeen and Linda (Paul) Van Berkel; four grandchildren: Tim Jr. and John (Michelle) Lindeen, Lisa (Ramon) Ramirez and Karen (significant other, Paul Ambrosius) Van Berkel; three great grandsons: Travis, Logan and Jacob; sister, Marlys (Jack) Carlson; brother, David (Rose Anne) Berg; brothers-in-law; Tom (Janet) Krenz and Jim (Mary) Krenz; sisters-in-law: Kay Mortenson, Lani Volkman and Connie (Harlan) Oldendorf. Jim is further survived by many other family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his son, David J. Berg and his parents.

The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at First English Lutheran Church, corner of North Street and Drew Street, Appleton, with Rev. Robert Herder officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. A committal service and burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Prairie View Cemetery, Chippewa Falls, WI.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Paul Russo, Dr. R. A. Nonn and Kathy H. and the staff at Theda Care at Home for their prompt, selfless and kind care.

Instead of flowers, a memorial fund in Jim’s name is being established for Theda Care at Home.
