Age 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 24, 2002 at the Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton, with his loving wife and family by his side. Jim was born February 20, 1922 in Appleton, son of the late Ambrose and Alvina (Fries) Weisgerber. Following his graduation from Appleton High School, he proudly served more than four years during World War II as a member of the United States Marine Corps, and saw action in the Pacific Theatre. Among his decorations are the Silver Star for gallantry and the Purple Heart. On January 16, 1946, he married the former Madelyn Noie at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna; she survives. For many years he was employed by the Adler Brau Brewery, and later worked as a parking meter technician for the city of Appleton until his retirement in 1984. Jim enjoyed outdoor sports of all kinds, and spent his summers on the golf course and his autumns at the bowling alley. In his earlier years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing at the family cottage on Lake Poygan. Many will remember his years of loyalty to the Green Bay Packers. Jim was a wonderful wood carver, and each year enjoyed showing his creations at Art in the Park. Jim was currently a member of the Johnston – Blessman Post #38 of the American Legion, and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #607, the Winagamie Golf Club, the Appleton Gallery of Arts, and was a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church

He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years: Madelyn “Maggi” Weisgerber; a son: Dick (Kris) Weisgerber of Appleton; a granddaughter: Amy (Craig) Batley of Wichita, Kansas; a grandson: Todd (Suzy) Weisgerber of Appleton and their sons Brady, Jakob, and Zachary; a niece: Katie McCurry of St. Paul, Minnesota. Jim is further survived by numerous relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Don, and by two sisters: June (Charles) Hughes and Marian McCurry.

The funeral liturgy for Jim will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at ST. THERESE CATHOLIC CHURCH, Morrison Street at Wisconsin Avenue with Fr. Daniel Gilsdorf officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery with military memorial honors being presented by the members of American Legion Post #38. Friends may call directly at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the liturgy. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be directed to a memorial fund that is being established in Jim’s name.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Kent Schaffer and Dr. John Swanson, as well as to the nurses at the Martha Siekman Center for their wonderful care. And what can be said about the beautiful people at Cherry Meadows? You cared for Jim as though he was your very own. He could have been in no better hands; thank you all so very much. We will always remember your kindness.

Poppy: You fought so hard to live, but it just wasn’t meant to be. I’ll love you forever. You’ll always be in my heart. -Maggi
