James J. Nettekoven

February 17, 1964 — November 14, 2003

Passed away Friday, November 14, 2003 in Redlands, California following a brief battle with lymphoma and complications due to pneumonia at the age of 39. Jim was born in Kaukauna on February 17, 1964, son of Richard and Donna (Wiedenhaupt) Nettekoven. Jim was a 1982 graduate of Kaukauna High School, attended The University of Edinborough in Scotland for one year, and graduated from the University of Wisconsin РGreen Bay where he made the Dean’s List with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications. Following his graduation, Jim worked in the communications field for a variety of companies, including Schneider Communications, LDDS, Norstan, and TDS Metrocom where he was the Director of Sales. While living in California, he owned and operated an Italian restaurant, Rosemarino’s. Jim enjoyed traveling the world over as well as attending numerous theatrical and musical events. He was always aware of his physical well-being, and was an active runner, weight trainer, and generally was an exercise enthusiast.

Jim is survived by his parents: Richard and Donna Nettekoven of Kaukauna; a brother: Bill “Zippy” Nettekoven of Kaukauna; a special aunt and uncle: Karen and Tom VanDeraa of Appleton; a very close cousin: Jenny (Mike) VanDeraa of Appleton. Jim is further survived by additional aunts and uncles: Paul (Margaret) Nettekoven of Kaukauna, Tom (Mary Ann) Nettekoven of Freedom, Dan Nettekoven of Kaukauna, and Mary Lou (Dale) Busse of Kaukauna. Jim is also survived by his “California” Family: Dino, Dorothy, Robert, Nicky, and Kimi Raimondi, as well as numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Ervin and Mildred Wiedenhaupt and his paternal grandparents Victor and Ruth Nettekoven.

Funeral services for Jim will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2003 at 6:30 PM at ZION LUTHERAN CHURCH, 912 N. Oneida Street in Appleton with Rev. Larry Matthews officiating. Interment will be in Kaukauna’s Union Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends directly at the church on Thursday from 4:00 PM until the hour of the service.

Many will remember Jim as a great organizer – he always knew what was coming next in his life. He had a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and a zest for life that he lived to the fullest. He will always be remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
