James A. Bartelt

April 23, 1929 — August 9, 2010

Jim Bartelt, age 81, passed safely into the arms of his waiting Lord on Monday, August 9, 2010. Jim was born in Sheboygan on April 23, 1929, the son of the late Harvey and Marie (Mahnke) Bartelt. On May 8, 1954, he married the love of his life, Marlou Kimbrel, in Chicago. The couple later relocated to the valley. For most of his working years, he was a carpenter, and many will remember his excellent work. During the Korean War, he served his country as a member of the United States Army. Jim was also a longtime and faithful member of Riverview Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton, where he was able to use his carpentry skills to the glory of God. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, who loved working in and experiencing the outdoors. Jim had a quick wit and a good sense of humor, and enjoyed exchanging quips over his daily coffee with the guys at the golf course. He treasured time spent with his family, and made frequent trips to Texas to be with his daughter and son-in-law, and two granddaughters whom he adored.

Jim is survived by his wife: Marlou Bartelt of Appleton; a daughter: Kerry (John) Werra of Plano, Texas, and their daughters Peyton and Kendall. There are also many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Donald (Elsie) Bartelt; and a sister: Elain (Richard) Stolzenburg.

The Christian Funeral for Jim will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 16, 2010 at RIVERVIEW EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 136 W. Seymour Street in Appleton with Rev. Adam Bode officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, and again Monday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
