Jack Reston Blair

June 17, 1928 — February 17, 2001

Surrounded by his loving family, Jack Reston Blair died of cancer Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in his home in Appleton. Before his retirement in 1990, Jack was Manager of Distribution Planning at Appleton Papers Inc. He was with the National Cash Register Co. in Dayton, Ohio, before moving to Appleton in 1971.

Jack's great love and work in retirement was volunteering for the Housing Partnership of the Fox Cities, rebuilding homes for the needy. He was a doer and a builder, creating many woodworking projects in his home workshop. Along with his love of family and home, he spent many hours working in his garden.

Jack was born June 17, 1928, in Dayton, Ohio, to R. Donald and Alice Reston Blair. He was graduated from The Ohio State University and earned a master's degree in business from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Freedom Moravian Church, and a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Appleton.

Jack is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eloise; two sons, David Reston Blair, his wife, Nancy, and granddaughter Jadyn of New York City, and Paul Carman Blair, and his wife, Mary, and grandchildren, Michael and Elizabeth of Green Bay. Also surviving are his mother, Alice Blair and his sister, Elaine (Russell) McDonald, both of Azle, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial service for Jack will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at the FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, 724 E. South River Drive, with Pastor Duane Ullrich officiating. A reception and lunch will follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ThedaCare Hospice Foundation Fund or to the Housing Partnership of the Fox Valley.

Life is eternal and love is immortal
And death is only a horizon.
And a horizon is nothing but the limit of one's sight.
Death is not extinguishing the light,
It is putting out the lamp because the dawn has come.

Jack's life on earth will always be treasured by his family and friends. We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the Hospice Organization for their loving care and concern.
