Jack J. Fischer

November 15, 1930 — August 30, 2004

Fischer, Jack J.

On Thursday, September 30, 2004, Jack Joseph Fischer died peacefully at Cherry Meadows Hospice. Jack was born to the late Lee and Mathilda (Gloudemans) Fischer on November 16, 1930, in Marshfield, WI.

Jack graduated from Appleton High School in 1948 and was a 1952 graduate of Lawrence College. He served in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence in Philadelphia until being honorably discharged in 1954. Jack married Carol Zelinske in Menasha on January 23, 1954. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in January of this year.

Jack taught in Edgerton, WI for three years and began teaching in the Appleton school system in 1959, retiring in 1990.

He will be missed by his three daughters and four grandchildren: Linda and her husband, Thomas Retson and their children, Gregory and Anastasia, Wilmington, NC; Susan and her husband, Jan Hansen and their children, Emma and Samuel, Cedarburg, WI; and Ann Smiley, Milwaukee, WI

Other family members include: his sister Joan Giuliani; brothers William (Janet) Fischer, Michael Fischer, Raymond (Carol) Fischer, Charles Fischer; his aunts, Mary Hobbins and Germaine Gloudemans; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and their dear friends that meant so much to him. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Ann Jack.

Jack enjoyed golfing, fishing, curling, and playing bridge. He thoroughly loved his involvement as high school reunion chairman and the committee activities. Jack was the kind of person who quietly offered his time and support to family and friends, especially in times of need.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at AMC and Cherry Meadows Hospice for the kindness shown to us. For this reason, in lieu of flowers, we ask the memorials be made to a fund for Cherry Meadows that will ensure that all those in need may be able to spend their final days in this wonderful facility. (Jack Fischer Memorial Fund for Cherry Meadows, 2500 Heritage Woods Drive, Appleton, WI 54915.)

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at Butte des Morts Country Club on Sunday, October 3, from 2:00 to 4:00. Surrounded by friends and family is truly what counts.
