Isla Mae Taylor
April 7, 1929- July 21, 2008
Isla Mae Taylor, 79, of Appleton passed away in her home on Monday morning July 21st following an extended illness surrounded by her loving family. Isla Mae was born in Waupaca, WI on April 7, 1929 to George and Bernice Friberg. She graduated from Waupaca High School with the class of 1947. Following high school she attended Carroll College in Waukesha, WI and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a degree in Primary Education. She married Donald Taylor, with whom she spent 57 wonderful years, on June 21st 1952. Prior to raising her family, Isla Mae taught elementary school in Wausau and later at Highlands Elementary School in Appleton.
“Izzy” was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life centered around providing for and nurturing her family. Her love was constant, encompassing and unconditional . She truly lived for family time especially when it involved her grandchildren. Many great memories were made at the cottage in Waupaca over the years.
Isla Mae enjoyed a variety of crafts and activities. She was an excellent gardener who started many plants from cuttings. When plants “outgrew” the house, they were moved on to the kids so other seedlings had room to sprout. She was a good seamstress for many years and loved to knit as well. Her unfinished projects are left in the capable hands of her very good friends with “Tuesday Club”. An avid and voracious reader, Isla Mae enjoyed the occasional rainy or snowy day for the excuse it provided to curl up with a good Mystery novel. She also enjoyed cooking for friends and family and accumulated an impressive collection of “secret” recipes over the years. Her handwritten recipe cards are treasured family momentos.
Isla Mae is survived by her loving husband, Donald and sons Craig (Susan) Taylor of Neenah and Scott (Terri) Taylor of Waupaca and grandchildren Andrew Taylor, Marine Cpl. Christopher Taylor currently serving his second deployment in Iraq, Kelsey Taylor and Kyle Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister JoAnne Davidson and brother-in-law Daryl Davidson.
The family would like to thank all the medical professionals who are too numerous to name for the compassionate and devoted care they provided Isla Mae during her extended illness. Their efforts are truly appreciated.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation celebrating the life of Isla Mae Taylor which will be held at the Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St., Appleton, on Friday July 25th from 4-7 pm. A memorial service will follow the visitation.
