Age 81, died Wednesday, September 19, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Irv was born on June 6, 1920, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to the late Irving and Emma (Ripplinger) Snow, Sr. He married Mary J. Floerkey on April 19, 1947, in Minneapolis. Irv was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for over 30 years. He and his wife owned and operated Snow's Restaurant in Appleton. Irv was a four year veteran of the United States Army. He served as a radio operator in the European theater earning a bronze star during WWII. Irv was a sports enthusiast. An avid golfer and consummate teacher, he taught his children to hack their way around area golf courses. He liked to play, watch and coach softball. He particularly enjoyed coaching girls Little League with his daughter. Hockey was the love of his life, having played as a goalie in high school and at the University of Minnesota. He later instilled his love of hockey in others as a coach in the Fox Valley Youth Hockey Program. He always took the time to work with individuals to develop their potential as players and people.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; his daughter, Paula (Bill) Keimel, Madison; his daughter, Marsha Snow, Appleton; his son Steven (Sandi) Snow, Town of Menasha; his son, John (Mary Jo) Snow, Onalaska; his grandchildren, Melissa (friend Marcus), Alison and Karen Keimel; Chad Nackers (friend Alicia); Tim Snow (friend Tricia), Jason Grebe, Julie (Allen) Last and Shanen (Pete) Paremski; Alyssa and Christopher Snow; his great-grandchildren, Megan Last and Emma Paremski; his sisters, Margie Murphy, Pat (Glenn) Bergstrom, Minnesota; and his former son-in-law, Gene Nackers and numerous nieces and nephews in the Twin City area.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Peg Lillie and his brother, Harold Snow.
The viewing and celebration of Irv's life will be held Sunday, September 23, 2001, from 4PM – until the time of service at 7PM at the WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, TRI-COUNTY CHAPEL, 3212 South Oneida Street, Menasha.
A memorial is being established to benefit Fox Valley Area Youth Hockey.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the doctors and staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, the caring professionals at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Home and the Angelus Retirement Community (you know who you are!), and particularly Dr. Deidre Flanagan who gave us a four month miracle.
