Rene Paden (Schumacher), age 84, passed away Tuesday evening, October 8, 2013, at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, following a brief illness. Rene was born in Appleton on November 21, 1928, daughter of the late Edward and Louise (Fisher) Doerfler. She attended high school in Appleton, and later married Roy J. Schumacher. Later, she married James Paden, who preceded her in death in 1996.
Rene loved gardening and golfing, but everyone will remember her for dancing with the Silver Foxettes from the YMCA, and for designing and sewing all of their costumes for many years.
Survivors include her four children: Lynn (Michael) Van Dyke of Sturgeon Bay; Kurt (Susan) Schumacher of Neenah; Lisa Schumacher of Appleton; and Kory (June) Schumacher of Hortonville; eight grandchildren: Matthew (Shannon) Van Dyke, Meredith Van Dyke, Kristopher Schumacher, Nichole (Joe) Kemp, Lindsey (Lukasz) Glowacki, Jennifer (Tony) Carter, Tara Menting, and Eric Schumacher; three great-grandchildren: Lahela, Evangeline, and Adrian; and a sister: Della Medlen of Appleton. Rene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim Paden in 1996, an infant brother, a brother Harold (Lila) Doerfler, and sisters Florence (Edgar) Verhoeven and Lucille Doerfler.
The funeral liturgy for Rene will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton. Family and friends are invited to gather directly at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the liturgy. A private inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
