FUERST, IONE A.
“Onie” Hintz
Ione A. Fuerst, age 86, was peacefully called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Rennes Health Center. Ione was born on March 4, 1922, in Appleton, to the late Karl and Anna (Uhlenbrauck) Hintz. She was united in marriage to Vernon L. Fuerst on April 5, 1942, in Appleton. He preceded her in death on February 11, 2003, after celebrating 61 years together. Ione was a stay-at-home mother after their marriage to raise their three children. She was a life-long member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton, where she was baptized into God's flock, confirmed in her faith, and was united in marriage to Vernon. Her love for her Lord and Savior led her to be very active in the church where she served in the Ladies Aid, The Past Officers and Past Presidents Clubs, and was a member of their dartball club. She also volunteered at AMC as a Pink Lady. Ione was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always put her family first. She loved traveling with Vernon and their many friends and family members. Ione enjoyed playing cards—cribbage, canasta and sheepshead. But most of all she enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren reading, playing button-button up the steps, and King's Corners. Her grandchildren boasted about her fabulous chocolate chip cookies and even though she shared the recipe, none could compare to hers. Ione was truly a very special grandmother. She was an excellent cook and everyone enjoyed sharing a meal she prepared. Some of her favorite and most memorable events were the times spent at the “shack” at Waubee Lake with family and friends.
Ione is survived by three children and their spouses; Judith (Galyn) Schulz, Greenville; Gary (Patricia) Fuerst, Appleton; and Bonnie (Roger) VandenLangenberg, Appleton. She is further survived by her eight grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn (Douglas) VandeWettering, Todd (Sandra) Schulz, Tori Lynne (Randall) Kluess, Troy (Jeanette) Schulz, Jaime (Matthew) Krause, Chad (Stacy) VandenLangenberg, Jenna (Shane) Smith, and Erin (Ben) West. She is also survived by her thirteen great-grandchildren, Kurt, Kyle, Cody, Kayla, Brandon, Matthew, Taryn, Trystin, Clara, Chloe, Tanisha, Alexis and Sadie; and a great granddaughter is expected in April. She is further survived by her sister, Helen Schuette and her sister-in-law, Helen Hintz plus many nieces, nephews and friends. Ione was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mable (Walter) Palmbach, Esther (Paul) Spletter, Flora (Norman) Hartwig, Dorothy (Frank) Biechler, Viola (Alvin) Ahrens, Frances (Richard) Fischer, Ruth (Milton) Maass; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Ervin (Erma) Hintz, Elmer Hintz, Clifford (Grace) Hintz; and brother-in-law, Raymond Schuette.
Christian funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison Street, Appleton, with Rev. Kenneth Frey officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, Fox Valley Lutheran High School or the Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank the staff at Rennes Health Care for the love and professional care they extended to Ione over the past six years.
