Age 72, passed away after a lengthy battle with emphysema at St. Elizabeth Hospital on Thursday, March 2, 2006. Howard was born September 22, 1933 in Appleton, the son of Howard N. and Marcella (Endter) Koehnke.

He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954.

Howard worked for various local construction companies as a carpenter and at Hortonville Manufacturing Company. He was a master of his trade and intricately put together models of his projects prior to actual building. His joy came with building things for friends and relatives.

Howard is survived by his wife, Barbara; his mother, Marcella; sons, Bill (Connie) and Dave; grandchildren: Bryan, Jennie, Nikki, Christine, Joel, Alex, Aaron and Rachel; great-grandchild, Kaylie; a brother, Jim (Donna), Fairfax, VA; step-children: Carrie (Ken) Walter, Kelly (Mike) Remme, Scott (Amy) Wolff and their children, Scott and Andy Walter, Emily and Joseph-Wolff; sister-in-law, Joan DeKeyser, and brother-in-law, John Andreski. He is further survived by: his aunts, Bea Hiler and Jack (John) Noffke, nieces and nephews, several cousins and the mother of his children, Luanne Nelson.

His father Howard and loving daughter Christine preceded him in death.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Monday, March 6, 2006 at WICHMANN FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Bertin Samsa officiating. Friends and relatives will be received at the funeral home on Monday, March 6 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
