Howard N. Scheuer

Age 93, passed away Friday, June 18, 2004 at the Appleton Medical Center. Howard was born in Manitowoc on March 15, 1911, son of the late Peter and Josephine (Thompson) Scheuer. As a young man, Howard worked for Quality Fruit Company from 1927 – 1935. On September 24, 1935, Howard married the former Florence Heinrichs in Manitowoc; she survives. From 1935 until 1949, he worked for the Clipper City Transit Company, and became the manager of the Appleton office of Clipper City in 1942. In 1949, Howard began working for the Godfrey Company of Waukesha, and retired in 1973. He was a member of the Teamster’s Union Local #563 and was a member of their retiree club. In his retirement, Howard drove school bus for Rohm’s Bus Lines until 1981.

Howard and Florence have been longtime members of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Appleton. He enjoyed golfing, playing sheepshead, and traveling with the family’s travel-trailer.

Howard is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years: Florence Scheuer of Appleton; a son: Kenneth (Kay) Scheuer of Appleton; three granddaughters: Kelly (Mike) McCoy and their daughters Mallory and Kourtnie of Appleton; Jill (Joel) Kable and their daughters Megan and Molly of Kaukauna; Wendy (Jim) Hansen and their son Colin of Neenah. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Diane Scheuer in 1997, and brothers Harvey and Warren Scheuer.

The funeral liturgy for Howard will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 11:00 AM at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton with Fr. Donald Zuleger officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 – 8 PM and again at the church on Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of the service. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at the funeral home on Monday at 7 PM.
