Age 86, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2004 at his home. He was born on February 27, 1918 in Boise, Idaho the son of the late Harry Vincent and Katharine (Light) Jones. Houston grew up in Sutherland, Nebraska, and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1941. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1941 – 1946 in the South Pacific (New Caledonia and New Hebrides). He was honorably discharged with the rank Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, he went to work for General Electric in Schenectady, New York where he met his wife June. They were married on February 22, 1947. He had a successful career in the electrical engineering field and in sales of electrical equipment in several eastern and midwestern states. He retired in St. Louis where they lived for 29 years before moving to Appleton in 2002. In retirement he volunteered for a number of organizations including the Astronomical Society, The Nature Conservancy, Missouri Public Radio and TV, St. David Society, and LPGA Tournament in St. Louis.
He is survived by his wife June S. Jones of Appleton, his sister Katharine Schrader, his daughter Nathalie Jones and husband David Low and their children Artos and Brook of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada; two sons Gregory Jones and his wife Linda Millunzi-Jones and their children Louise and Corrina of Madison, and Jennifer from a previous marriage, and Ronald Jones and is wife Nancy and their children Laura and Eric of Appleton. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ruth and a brother Vincent.
A memorial service will be conducted on Sunday May 2nd at 2 PM at Touchmark On West Prospect, 2601 West Prospect Avenue, Appleton. The family will greet relatives and friends immediately following the memorial.
