Hildegard J. Diersen

December 27, 1916 — April 11, 2010

Hildegard Diersen, age 93, passed away peacefully at home in Neenah on Sunday afternoon, April 11, 2010. Hildegard was born in Ozaukee County on December 27, 1916, daughter of the late John and Amanda (Braeger) Laubenstein. On June 3, 1944, Hildegard married Harry Diersen in Newburg, Wisconsin. Harry preceded her in death in 1968. Hildegard was a lifelong Milwaukee resident, having worked at Square D as a young woman, raising her children in the area, and after Harry's death, she also worked at J.C. Penney. In her free time, Hildegard enjoyed being outdoors, enjoying God's creation and caring for her flowers.

She is survived by three children: Ronald Diersen of Kenosha; Ginny (Norm) Neman of Darien, Wisconsin; and Mark (Sandy) Diersen of Neenah; nine grandchildren: Jeff (Kim) Neman, Steve Neman, Stacy (Rick) Austin, Kim Neman, Tim (Angel) Neman, Scott Scherer, Michael Scherer, Shelley (Jason) Driver, and Jonathan (Betsy) Heibler. There are also fifteen great-grandchildren and two-great-great-grandchildren. Further survivors include a brother: Herbert (Ruth) Laubenstein of Arlington Heights, Illinois; two sisters-in-law: Ruth Diersen of Spring Grove, Minnesota and Shirley Mohr of Fredonia, Wisconsin; and dear family friends: Edna Brown, Pat Peters, and Dick and Alda Stuhr, all of Milwaukee. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Hildegard was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry in 1968, a son Martin Diersen in 1988, a great-grandson Scott Scherer II in 2005, and brothers and sisters Ben (Edna) Zinke, Martin (Ann) Laubenstein, Ted Laubenstein, and Viola (Arno) Witt.

The Christian Funeral for Hildegard will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at ST. JOHN EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6802 W. Forest Home Avenue in Milwaukee with Rev. Dennis Belter of Riverview Ev. Lutheran Church, Appleton, and Rev. Martin Schulz officiating. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the worship service. In lieu of flowers, memorial funds are being established at both Riverview Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton and St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Milwaukee.

The family would like to extend their thanks to everyone at Theda Care At Home, who helped to make Hildegard's final days and weeks more comfortable. Thanks especially to Dr. Richard Klamm, Dr. Kevin Mortata, nurse Katie Kelch, and to Ann Evensen – we will never forget your loving care and your tender manner.

Pastor Belter, Pastor Bode, and Mr. Wolfgramm, you have been a true blessing to our mom and to our entire family during these trying times. Your presence, support, prayers, and compassion will forever be appreciated by our grateful family.
