Hilary J. Miller

April 28, 1915 — March 5, 2001

Age 85, passed away Monday, March 5, 2001 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. Hilary was born April 29, 1915 in Sherwood, son of the late Peter and Lorina (Lettenberger) Miller. On June 27, 1939, Hilary married the former Susanna Schwalbach in Darboy; she survives. During World War II, he worked in both Manitowoc, Wisconsin and Puget Sound, Washington Navy yards building ships. During the 1950’s he operated a plumbing and heating shop in Sherwood. He later built a bowling alley in Sherwood which he owned and operated until 1960. Hilary was employed at Kimberly Clark Corporation before moving to Kimberly in 1961. He worked at Paper Converting Machine Company in Green Bay until his retirement in 1978. Hilary was a past member of the Cecil Lions Club, Past President of Local #1102 Retirees, a member of the National Council of Senior Citizens, AARP, Knights of Columbus Council #1033, and Catholic Knights #215 of Sherwood.

Hilary is survived by his wife of sixty-two years: Susanna Miller of Darboy; two daughters: Jan (Jim) Quella of Hortonville and Katie (Jeff) Peterson of DePere; two sons: Tom (Claire) Miller of Pearce, Arizona and Peter (Linda) Miller of Appleton; eleven grandchildren: Kevin Quella, Julie (Keith) Hoople, Amy (Loren) Lortscher, Jenny Miller, Nathan, Michael, P.J., and Erin Miller, and Jason and Chad Peterson; seven great-grandchildren; a sister: Ruth (Bernie) Broeckert of Manitowoc; three sisters-in-law: Irma Wittman, Hattie (Howard) Thiessen, and Honey Schwalbach; three brothers-in-law: Paul (Vera) Schwalbach, Joe (Lila) Schwalbach, and Leroy Klein. Hilary was preceded in death by his parents, by sisters-in-law Alice Dietzen, Stella (Cyril) Klein, Catherine Klein, and Lucille (Carl) Grassl, and by brothers-in-law George Schwalbach and Joe Wittman.

The funeral liturgy for Hilary will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at HOLY ANGELS CATHOLIC CHURCH, W5831 County Road KK in Darboy with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Sherwood. Friends may call directly at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the liturgy.
