Helen K. Olson

Helen K. Olson, age 94, was called from her earthly pilgrimage to be with her Savior on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. She was born on July 15, 1918, in Ironwood, Michigan, the first child of the late Andrew and Tynne (Pysto-Anderson) Kangas. Helen graduated from Appleton High School in 1936. She married Lynos Olson on December 21, 1940; he preceded her in death on September 5, 1972. Survivors include her children, Judi (John) Sullivan, Dennis (Madelyn) Olson and Alan (Dolly) Olson; her eleven grandchildren; her 15 great grandchildren; and her great great granddaughter. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Verna (Elmer) Rasmussen, Bernice (Paul) Strittmatter, Betty (John) Peterson; and other family members. Helen was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church her entire life, and served the congregation as a member of the St. Paul Ladies Aid, and was an assistant to the Kindergarten teacher for many years. She served with the Fox Valley Lutheran High School Ladies Guild. Helen also faithfully served with the AMC gift shop and the Bargain Garden Thrift Shop. The Christian celebration of Helen's life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2012, at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street, Appleton, with Rev. Kenneth L. Frey officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Mom requests memorials to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church for the Sunday morning radio broadcasts of St. Paul church services, or Fox Valley Lutheran High School Tuition Assistance Program. The family wishes to thank the many loving caregivers at Matthews Assisted Living—Kilkenny Cottage who so faithfully cared for mom during her time with them; and also the staff at Heartland Hospice.
