Age 62, died Thursday evening, June 28, 2001, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 30, 1938, to the late George and Ruth (Huhn) Coonen, in Appleton, where she was a resident all of her life. Helen had been employed by Aid Association for Lutherans for 13 years in the housekeeping department and enjoyed playing bingo. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and the Ladies of the Moose. Survivors include her husband, James F. VandenBoogart, to whom she had been married for 16 years; a son, Brad “Gorilla” Brouillard, Appleton; a step-son, James F. VanderBoogart, Jr., Chicago; a step-daughter, Lisa (Mike) Ellison, Milwaukee; five grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Carol Coonen, Appleton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Roseann and Robert Krahn, Appleton; Mary Lu Coonen, Appleton; her Bingo Buddies and many friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband Sylvester “Bud” Brouillard. The funeral liturgy for Helen will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, July 2, 2001, at ST THOMAS MORE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1825 N. McDonald Street, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 pm Sunday and on Monday at the church from 10:00 am, until the time of the service. There will be a Moose Service at 6:30 pm and a parish prayer and scripture service at 7:00 pm Sunday. A memorial fund is being established.
