Gussie Ann Balck

Gussie Balck, age 87, passed away at Grand Horizons in Kimberly on Tuesday evening, January 3, 2012, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Gussie was born in Kimberly on November 2, 1924, daughter of the late John and Dora (Nushart) Van Laarschot. In 1949, she married George Balck; he preceded her in death in 1983. For forty-one years, Gussie was employed in the mail room at Kimberly Clark and Badger Globe, retiring in 1983 to care for her husband and her “Paw”, John. Gussie loved to visit Las Vegas with her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Art Leske. She also loved to read and watching western movies.

She is survived by her dear friends: Pat and Dean Walker, and Ginger and Lyle Van Dyn Hoven; a sister-in-law: Florence Balck and her family; and Margaret Nushart, DuWayne Nushart, and Wendy Obila and their families. Gussie was preceded in death by her husband George in 1983, mother Dora in 1971, father John in 1987, sister Mary Leske in 2007, and brother-in-law Art Leske in 2003.

The funeral liturgy for Gussie will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at ST. PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 E. Wallace Street in Combined Locks, with Fr. Andrew Kysely officiating. Interment will be in Holy Name Cemetery, Kimberly. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who took such special care of Gussie. They include everyone at Heartland Hospice, especially Vi, and everyone at Grand Horizons, especially Heather, Jessica, and Alicia. We will always remember your kindness.
