Grace Sue Harvey

June 28, 1909 — February 7, 2009

Harvey, Grace Sue McCraw

On Saturday, February 7, 2009, Grace Sue McCraw Harvey took the hand of the Savior whom she loved so well and walked with Him into His Kingdom.

Born on June 28, 1909, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Grace was raised on a farm in Buckingham County Virginia. Grace knew hard work and sacrifice and the joy of service to others. In her 99 years on this earth she touched many lives. Often Grace was asked to nurse ailing friends and relatives and she always did so with a happy heart. She lived a simple life and enjoyed life's most basic pleasures—cooking for her family, tending her garden, caring for her dogs and cats, crocheting, reading, and working her puzzles. In her younger days, Grace could be heard singing hymns while she worked.

She married Burton Miller Harvey on September 14, 1926, in Dillwyn, Virginia. They settled in Richmond, VA, and enjoyed 51 years together. They raised a son, James and a daughter, Thelma. When her beloved Burton passed away, Grace joined her daughter's family in New Jersey. After 17 years there, she moved with them to Texas, then to Ohio, and to Little Chute, WI in 2005.Grace was a member of the Leigh Street Baptist Church in Richmond, VA. Although in her later years she was unable to attend church, her faith was the central part of her life.

Grace was at the heart of a small family who will miss her dearly and can't imagine life without her. She is survived by her daughter, Thelma Harvey Northart, Little Chute; her granddaughter, Pamela (Greg) Saulnier, Appleton, and her grandson, Leo Joseph (Mary) Northart, Cincinnati, Ohio. She is also survived by her three great-grandchildren: Samantha Northart, Cincinnati, and Arielle and Alexander Saulnier, Appleton.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband, Burton; her son, Reverend James Miller Harvey; her sister, Edith Whorley; her parents Cora Alice and A. Edwards, and half-sisters and brothers.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Duppler and Dr. Swanson and nurse Jill Tetting of Thedacare. Thank you also to Teri Metropoulos of Thedacare at Home who helped us through a difficult time. Thank you to the nurses, the angels on earth, who cared for Grace from Thedacare Hospice and Brightstar. And, finally, our thanks to the nurses and staff at Cherry Meadows for their kindness and compassion during Grace's final days

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday, February 12, at the funeral home. The family will then take Grace back to New Jersey for a memorial service and internment. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Fox Valley Humane Association.
