Glen P. Vandehey

April 14, 1922 — April 22, 2002

He is at peace. Glen, age 80, died Monday, April 22, 2002. He was born April 14, 1922 in Freedom, son of the late Peter and Mary (Murphy) Vandehey. On June 29, 1946, he married Bertha Houterman of Kimberly; she preceded him in death on July 3, 1996.

Glen, (Slim), served his country by enlisting in the Navy from 1942-1946 after graduation from Kimberly High School. He attended Marquette University School of Engineering and then worked at the Kimberly paper mill for 46 years, retiring as Electrical Superintendent in 1987. Glen also served his community as Village of Kimberly Electrical Inspector and as a member of the Water Commission.

A long time member of Holy Name Church, he served his parish community through involvement in his prayer group, volunteering at Holy Name School and bringing communion to shut ins. He found special joy in delivering meals on wheels to area residents.

An avid fisherman; he also enjoyed camping and boating with his children and extended family. He will be remembered for his gentle nature and sense of humor, his strength of faith, family values and work ethic.

Glen is survived by his eight children: Mary Jo (Bill) Welch of Appleton; Jean (James) Ramer of Beaver Dam; Cathy (Ted) Steinke of Layton, Utah; Betsy (Bob) Frank of Waukesha; John (Melissa Brateng) Vandehey of Shiocton; Anne (Ken) Cook of Wolf Creek, Montana; Theresa Goyette of Kimberly; Patti (Dale) Kuehn of Stevensville, Michigan; twenty grandchildren; one great-grandson; three sisters: Mary Clare (Ken) Robl of Oshkosh; Nori (Ken) Stuyvenberg of Kimberly; Eunice (Ray) Sanderfoot of Darboy; three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Houterman Haack of Menasha; Min Austin of Menasha; Theresa Houterman of Chippewa Falls; a brother-in-law: Bill Gloudemans of Little Chute. Glen is further survived by a close friend: Marilyn Evers of Darboy, as well as by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bertha in 1996, brothers: Herman (Ethel) Vandehey and Donald (Myrtle) Vandehey; sisters: Florence Gloudemans, Lucille (Walter) Vosters, Agnes (Len) Holzer and Rose (Leo) Kroner; and brothers-in-law: Bill Houterman, James Austin, and John Houterman.

The funeral liturgy for Glen will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, April 26, 2002 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 600 E. Kimberly Avenue in Kimberly with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military memorial honors provided by the members of William Verhagen Post #60 of the American Legion. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until the time of the prayer service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday at the church from 11:00 AM until the hour of the liturgy at 12:00 Noon.
