Gilbert C. Young, age 85, of Appleton, died Thursday morning, October 6, 2005, at Cherry Meadows, following a 7 month illness. He was born June 11, 1920, to the late Charles and Marie (Piette) Young, in Milwaukee and had been an Appleton resident most of his life. Gib married Ruth I. Dingeldein on August 22, 1942. Following his marriage, Gib served with the U. S. Army, during WW II, in the European Theatre. After his discharge he was employed by Wisconsin Tissue Mills, for 40 years, retiring in 1982. Gib lived to go deer hunting. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Ruth I. Young; nine children, Thomas (Linda) Young, Appleton; Diane (Del) Romenesko, Kernersville, NC; Lois (Wally) Malliet, Bear Creek; Joanne (Darwin) Hostettler, Hortonville; Nancy (Steve) Rasmussen, Pelican Lake; Gilbert (Nancy) Young, Kimberly; Brenda Stein (Jack DeBruin), Neenah; Lynn (Ken) Burroughs, Appleton; Dennis (Jennifer) Young, Peshtigo. Gib enjoyed spending time with his 31 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is further survived by three sisters and a brother, Lorraine (Ed) Borski, Menasha; Bernice Weinfurter, Milwaukee; Ruth Porter, Menasha; and Fritz (Carol) Weber. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Todd Sorensen, two granddaughters, Lisa Hostettler and Paula Malliet, his step-father, who raised Gilbert, Fred Weber, and a sister, Doris Bishop. The funeral liturgy for Gilbert will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, corner of Fremont and Monroe Streets, with Father Norm Krutzik officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 pm, and on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 am, until the time of the mass. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service at 7:00 pm Monday. A memorial fund is being established.
