Gertrude Rose Koslowski

July 30, 1916 — April 19, 2015

Gertrude Rose Koslowski, age 98, formerly of Menasha, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015, while residing at Bethany Pines Assisted Living in Waupaca. On July 30, 1916, Gert was born in Sherwood, the sixth of ten children to the late Lawrence and Elizabeth (Ecker) Ciske. She attended St. Mary grade and high school, graduating in 1935. Gert was united in marriage to Herbert Koslowski on June 11, 1941; he preceded her in death on July 26, 2006. She had enjoyed flower gardening and shopping with her sisters. Gert had a talent for crocheting and made afghans for her family. She also was a great cook and baker. Her family will remember her for the bread and buns she made, but mostly for her cut-out cookies with the white chocolate frosting. Gert especially loved the times she could spend with her children and grandchildren.
Gert will be missed by her loving children: Judith (William) Herrbold, Waupaca; and Michael (Mary) Koslowski, Oshkosh; her grandchildren: Christopher and Matthew Herrbold, Tanya (Travis) Young, Jered (Chris), Terra, and Lisa Koslowski; and 3 great-grandchildren: Lauren, Linsey, and Brayden Koslowski; a brother-in-law, Peter Harris; and many other family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by 4 brothers: John (Frieda) Ciske, Edward (Genny) Ciske, Anthony Ciske, and Clarence “Lovey” (Jean) Ciske; 5 sisters: Marie (Ray) Brandish, Cele (Mose) Bellanger, Isabelle (Bob) Werner, Elly Ciske, and Betty Harris; a brother-in-law, Dave (Bea) Koslo; and sister-in-law, Marcella Kondy.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, May 1, 2015, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 516 De Pere Street in Menasha. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10:00 am until the hour of the Mass at the church. Inurnment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery in the Town of Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bethany Pines Assisted Living as well as the staff of Theda Care Hospice for the wonderful care and loving kindness given to Gert.

They would also like to extend a very special thank you to her nieces and their husbands: Pat and George Grantin, Bonnie and Bob Plummer, Sue and Tom Gruper; and her cousin, Tom Konetzke, for the constant visits and continued friendship; and her special neighbors from School Court, Marcie and Pat Murphy, who were always there when needed.
