Geroldine V. Paulie

July 28, 1915 — August 3, 2012

Born in Kaukauna on July 28, 1915 as Twanette Radermacher, Geroldine passed away August 3, 2012, just after her 97th birthday. Jesus claimed his angel after a long life of giving to others. Twanette began giving of herself at the age of three when her mother, Nelda (nee Pauls) Radermacher died unexpectedly. She lived with her Grandmother Pauls, younger sister Nelda, and her cousin Norman. She attended St. Paul Lutheran School in Appleton, and when Bernard married “Bell” Samson, the family converted to Catholicism and Twanette began thoughts of becoming a nun and changed her name to Geroldine. As a young woman, she joined the Dominican nuns in Racine as Sr. Bernita, and taught school as a novice in both Racine and Michigan. After nine years, her health failed, and she left the convent. Several years later, she met and married Rodney Paulie of Seymour, and the couple settled in Appleton where they raised three daughters: Maureen, Denise, and Rose Marie. At a time when most women stayed at home, Gerry worked full-time in addition to being a devoted wife and mother. She taught school for over thirty years, both at St. Therese in Appleton and St. Edward in Mackville. She was one of those really good teachers who loved her work and never let any child fall behind, no matter how much extra time they needed. She was also one of those really good mothers who sacrificed everything for her children. She loved cooking, baking, dancing, and socializing. She was a longtime and faithful member at St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She will be remembered by all for her love for her daughters and her love for her God.

Gerry is survived by three daughters: Maureen (Gerald) Kalwitz, Denise (Rich) Mirabello, and Rose Marie Van Voorhis, all of Appleton; five grandchildren: Scott Kalwitz, Troy (Jessica) Kalwitz, Samantha Mirabello, Chad Van Voorhis, and Tim Van Voorhis; eleven great-grandchildren: Brandon, Scott Jr., Trevor, Brooke, Bryce, Travis, Michael, Cheyenne, Elizabeth, Sebastian, and Desmond; and a special niece: Judy Lukes. She was preceded in death by her parents: Bernard and Nelda Radermacher, her step-mother: “Bell” Samson Radermacher; her husband: Rodney Paulie; an infant daughter; a sister: Nelda Schoettler Herbst; a granddaughter: Connie Marie Kalwitz; and a niece: Karen Schoettler.

The funeral liturgy for Gerry will be held at 11:00 AM on Thurdsay, August 9, 2012 at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH, 500 W. Marquette Street in Appleton, with Fr. Thomas J. Farrell officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday morning from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service.

Gerry will be truly missed by her family and everyone who knew her. Each and everyone one of us have been blessed by her generosity over the years, and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
