Germaine H. Nowak

NOWAK, GERMAINE H. (nee ZIEBELL)

Germaine Nowak, age 79, of Appleton, died on Saturday, May 31, 2008 after a courageous seven year struggle with colon cancer. She was born September 15, 1928 in Oshkosh, daughter of the late Edwin and Adelia (Kaliebe) Ziebell. On July 12, 1952 she married Robert Nowak at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Appleton. Germaine's husband was a career military man so after living in California, Michigan England, Texas, Alaska and Kansas, she and Robert returned to Appleton in 1975.

Germaine is survived by her beloved husband: Robert; son and daughter-in-law: James and Teresa Nowak; grandson: Benjamin Nowak, all of Roanoke, VA; half-sister: Patricia Ziebell, Appleton; half-brother: Larry (Patti) Ziebell, Big Falls; sister-in-law: Judi Ziebell, Appleton; nephew: Michael (Judy) Schalk, Muskegon, MI; aunt: Mae Ziebell, Oshkosh; cousins and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Naomi Ziebell; sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and Jerry Schalk; infant sister, Enid Ziebell and half-brother, Kenneth Ziebell.

The funeral liturgy for Germaine will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 6, 2008 at ST. JOSEPH CATHOLIC CHURCH, 410 W. Lawrence St., Appleton with Fr. Bob Lexa officiating. The visitation will be held at Wichmann Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 pm and again at the church on Friday from 9:30 am until the time of mass. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Martha Siekman Cancer Center are appreciated.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Guenther and the entire staff at the Martha Siekman Cancer Center, the staff at Appleton Medical Center 3-south, Dr. Fox and his staff and all the special volunteers at the Cancer Center.
