Gerda M. Schmidt

December 19, 1924 — November 22, 2016

Gerda Schmidt, age 91 of Menasha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, November 22, 2016. Gerda was born in Germany on December 19, 1924, daughter of the late Frederich and Meta Schmidt. Though she was born in Germany, she was very proud of her naturalized United States Citizenship.

Gerda will be remembered by all as a special, one-of-a-kind woman who enjoyed family Packer game-day cookouts, being a wonderful grandmother and great-grandmother to all, crocheting treasures for her family, eating ice cream, listening to country western music, and happily volunteering as the featured soloist at all private and family functions.

She is survived by five loving children: Rose Edmondson of Neenah; Margrit Sphatt of Neenah; William (Catherine) Basler of Menasha; Susan (William) Konwal of Brillion; and Donna (Jeff) Schmidt of Appleton. Her grandchildren are: Carrie (Jim) Seubert, Rev. Kelly (Rachel) Leary, Amy (Fane) Friberg, Bob (Amy) Leary, Jennifer (Josh) Helm, Angela (Jeremy) Bortle, Bill (Karen) Basler, Nicholas Konwal, Casey (Stephanie) Schmidt, and Joshua (Amy) Schmidt. Gerda is further survived by seventeen great-grandchildren, a special niece: Karen (Douglas) Montiague-Thacker; a special friend: Sue Nimmer; and Gerda's furry friends: Izzy, Madison, Jackson, Loki, Lugnut, and Mr. Lloyd Banks. Gerda was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Margrit Mertens and Elfriede Gustafson.

The funeral service for Gerda will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 28, 2016 at TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH, 300 Broad Street in Menasha, with Rev. Keith Gerue officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the hour of the service.

The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to Dr. David Zerrien and his staff and the many caregivers at The Bridges of Appleton and at Heartland Hospice. We will never forget your kindness. Thanks also to Pastor Kopitzke for his prayers and the comfort he brought. Your many visits will always be remembered.
