Geraldine D. Berg, of Menasha, age 73, passed away peacefully at the Rennes Health Center on April 1, 2006. She was born March 23, 1933 in Kimberly, the fifth child of James and Nellie DeGroot. Geri attended St. John’s Grade School and Little Chute High School graduating in 1952. Her family lived in Little Chute until 1949 when they moved to Appleton.

Geri married Carlton Berg on October 1, 1953 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Appleton and lived at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida for fifteen months while Carl finished his enlistment. Following his military service, Geri and Carl came back to Appleton were they were blessed with four children, Michael, Karen, Carla and Barbara.

She loved decorating, painting, boating, shopping and especially the time at the cottage, which later became the family home. During the children’s school years she was active in the library, home schooling and scouting activities. Geri enjoyed the many hours at her sewing machine and the beautiful clothing and home décor that she made for her family.

Geri is survived by her husband Carlton; a son Michael Berg of San Diego, CA; three daughters: Karen Berg of Appleton, Carla (Larry) Locke of Hortonville and Barbara (Gene) Wall of Schertz, TX; five grandchildren: Adam Apell, Emily Coffin, John and Mark Perry and Elena Wall; two great grandchildren: Deonte and Jazmine Coffin; three sisters: Evelyn Dolan, Leone (Jerome) Berg and Helen DeGroot; brother, Clayton (Jeanette) DeGroot. She is further survived by her husband’s family: Laverne, Mildred, Verona, Delores, Theresa and Anita Berg, Joan Janz, Loretta (Gerald) Schultz, Anna (Richard) Hayes, Florence (Paul) Walker, Jerome (Leone), Victor, Vincent (Ione) and Adam (Charlotte) Berg. Geri is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Eunice, sisters-in-law: Margaret Maxfield and Evelyn DeBroux; brothers-in-law: Jack Dolan, Francis, Gerald, John, Hubert, Leo, Peter and George Berg.

The funeral liturgy for Geri will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont, Appleton with Father Robert Karuhn officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday, April 4 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Wichmann Funeral Home and on Wednesday at the Church from 10:00 am until the time of mass. Memorials to Sacred Heart Parish are appreciated.
