Gerald L. Hoerig

August 18, 1943 — January 26, 2001

Age 57, died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, January 26, 2001. Gerry was born on August 18, 1943, in Appleton, to Francis and Joyce (Jack) Hoerig. On January 11, 1975, he was united in marriage to Nikki Postma and in 1978 the couple moved to Boulder, Colorado. Gerry was a graduate of Hortonville High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He retired from Syntex/Roche in 1997 and was currently self-employed in the pharmaceutical industry as a consultant. He was on the board of Chemical Manufacturers Association and was a champion for Responsible Care in CMA. Gerry was very active in the Long’s Peak Council of the Boy Scouts of America and the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. He was an avid big game hunter and outdoorsman; he loved communing with nature. Gerry was very active in the Boulder community, serving on the Affiliated National Bank Board, Golden West Foundation, Boulder County United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Student Leadership Institute, the Boulder Community Hospital Foundation, and a number of advisory councils for both the University of Colorado and the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Engineering.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years; his parents; his daughter, Andrea (Tony) Beer, Round Lake Beach, Illinois; his sons, David G. Hoerig, Boulder, and Paul R. Hoerig, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; his beloved granddaughter, Taylor; his father and mother-in-law, Bill (Ruby) Postma; and his brothers-in-law, Bob (Barb) Postma and Carl (Debra) Postma. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald.

The Liturgy of the Word will be held at NOON on Tuesday, January 30, 2001, at ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH-Greenville, N2385 Municipal Drive (Highway 76), Greenville (Appleton), with Fr. John Zickert officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in his name to benefit Long’s Peak Council of BSA and the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Engineering.
