George Medema

MEDEMA, GEORGE

George Medema, 82, of Appleton, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Appleton Medical Center. He was born on June 2, 1927 in Brandon, Wisconsin, the son of the late Herman and Allie (Bronkhorst) Medema. George served his country in the U.S. Air Force. On March 18, 1950 he married Bonnie Wildeman and she preceded him in death on June 3, 1995. George married Evelyn Rechter on June 28, 1997. They enjoyed entertaining residents in area nursing homes. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Appleton. George volunteered at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah and Bethesda Thrift Store for a few years. He was employed at National Rivet in Waupun for 40 years retiring in 1993. George enjoyed music, traveling, especially to Texas, and most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife: Evie Medema, Appleton; children: Gerald (Susan) Medema, Waupun; Ken (Amy) Medema, Waupun; Larry (special friend Susie) Medema, Appleton; Pam (Ken) Schregardus, Randolph; Christopher Rechter, Glendale; Heidi Rechter, Madison and Lisa (Jeff) Hesson, Neenah; daughters-in-law: Diane VandeZande, Alto and Marcia Medema, Appleton; grandchildren: Valerie (Brian) Koch; Stacy (Steve) Schramm, Stephanie (Dave) Lenz and Nicole (Chris) Jahn; Jason (Alex) Medema, Andrea (Mark) Smits and Marc (fiance Ashley) Medema; Telly, Wendy, Melissa, Jeff, Kevin and Nathan (Kimberly) Medema; Andrew, Leann and Sarah Schregardus; Fred, Elizabeth and Mary Rechter; Carly, Lindsey and Jake Rechter; Sheena and Connor Hesson; 23 great grandchildren; sisters and brother: Margaret Middlestaedt, Waupun; Helen (John) Aapoel, Waupun; Rev. Ted (Julia) Medema, Alto and Thelma Medema, Waupun; brother-in-law: Sid Soodsma, Waupun and sister-in-law: Ramona Medema, Randolph. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

George was preceded in death by his brother-in-law: Don Middlestaedt; brothers: John (Marcie) Medema, Clayton (Carol) Medema and Alvin Medema; sister-in-law: Helen Soodsma and son: Richard Medema.

The funeral service for George will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2009 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 E. Glendale Avenue, Appleton. The Rev. James Wiebel and Rev. Ted Medema will be officiating. The burial will take place at Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun. The visitation will be held on Thursday at the Wichmann Funeral Home Tri-County Chapel from 4:00 until 7:00 pm and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to White Waters Ministries.
